The construction of the scientific concepts of extinction, environmental degradation and symmetry by scholars of Scientific Junior Initiation

Abstract

This is a qualitative research, with the aim of analyzing the concepts that students, scientific-Jr initiation grantees built on its thematic research. The study was developed under the Social Program of Education, Vocation and Science Education in Bahia, the Federal University of Bahia, with 5 Ic-Jr fellows, but for this article, we selected three of these, because the issues are associated with content biology. The activities developed by the project team that were recorded in video, audio and written records, which constituted a database. From this database, we selected episodes and written records to analyze the construction of concepts by students. We seek to Vygotsky, as a reference to analyze our data. The concepts of students in the early activities of direction for the project and for the preparation of the experiment, the daily. These concepts propelled the development of scientific concepts. Students were able to describe and explain the phenomenon and its consequences in some spheres. They managed to build the scientific concepts of environmental degradation, extinction and symmetry facilitated the discussions, readings and reflections.
