Measuring the tourism economic impact in islands: a review article
Abstract
Regardless of the tourism development models followed by island territories, the sector as a whole or as a specific component of the tourist activity results in multiple economic impacts whose efforts of quantification have involved several academics and researchers, and the use of different methodologies.
Despite the many constraints and vulnerabilities that flog the island Territories, they can improve the performance of their economies not only investing in traditional sectors but also creating conditions to increase the permanence in their territories of tourism revenues. Thus, this literature review allowed to help in the understanding of how the theme of the quantification of the economic impact of tourism has been addressed in the Islands and identify areas and Islands that lack of studies scientifically robust.
