Culture and Tourism in Paranaguá, Paraná-Brazil: a history of this interaction between 1950 and 2016
Abstract
This research addresses aspects of the relationship between culture and tourism in Paranaguá, Paraná-Brazil, between 1950 and 2016. It was established as an objective, to verify how tourism developed, and how issues related to tourism and culture were incorporated in the planning of the municipality of of Paranaguá, known as the cradle of the civilization of Paraná, for having been the port of entry of the colonizers, in the 1550s. In addition to tourist attractions related to cultural tourism, there are events and religious parties, has outstanding natural beauty, such as Ilha do Mel, in addition to a port of national relevance. We used the case study method with bibliographic and documentary research in secondary sources with a descriptive character. Factors related to identity, cultural traditions, historical and cultural heritage, material and immaterial goods were researched. It was concluded, with regard to tourism, that cultural identity needs to be valued, as it contains a historical and cultural background that are part of the customs and traditions of Paranaguá, which leaves aspects related mainly to cultural tourism yet to be explored.
