Abstract

The analysis of the historic-social-cultural role; the social representations that refer to being servile, to be at the service of … and about the foreigner/tourist constructed in people’s mentality and the Education in Tourism influence in the hospitality quality. The outlining of this research was done following a descriptive-explicative methodology. The data assessment was processed through quali-quantitative instruments bound for the direct observation, the oral deposition record and the documents research. The data collected were organized, tabulated, analyzed and interpreted through the Content Analysis. We have verified, in the historic-social-cultural context, the social representations that imbue the local mentality in the construction of the idea of tourist as hostis in order to establish the relation of these representations with the quality of the Tourist’s hospitality. The results point to an affective-cognitive inadequacy of peoplein their professional activities issued of their historic-social-cultural formation and to significative gaps in their Basic and Professional Education. We present some recommendations and educational proposals that could give consciousness to people about these aspects and that, if implemented, could transform the actual paradigm that was found of tourist being and treated as hostis into a tourist that must be considered as hospes.
