Abstract

Showcases on advanced research, reflection and debate, scientific journals play a key role on the progress of Science, affecting organizations and its authors professional recognition. Reflecting Tourism’s rapid growth on recent decades, specific publications contribute to the diffusion of Tourism knowledge and its academic affirmation. This article seeks to replicate Sheldon’s (1991) study, updated by Jogaratnam et al. (2005), on the authorship of three of the top international journals in Tourism, upon Journal of Tourism and Development (RT&D). Data from articles published in the “Scientific Articles” section was collected into a database. Results reveal similarities between RT&D and its international counterparts, either about authors, as to their affiliation institutions, but also they point to an insufficient representation of non-academic sectors.
