Abstract

The focus is on the climate change because of the great threat of its effects on essential areas of the society, to the extent that the increase of temperature causes changes in precipitation patterns, rising sea levels, coastal erosion and other impacts. Tourism is one of the main economic activities in the world and is responsible for CO2 emissions as well as one of the most affected activities by the climate change. Tourism is also a tool for economic redistribution, to minimize conflicts, and an instrument for cultural preservation and environmental conservation. This paper proposes a discussion about the causes, effects and mitigation, and adaptations measures that tourism may have, using as a basis the IPCC reports and their projections. Focusing on the European region, one can verify that the impacts felt in this area
of the planet, with an intense tourist activity, will be significant, placing some destinations at risk of failing this activity. However there are some mitigation and adaptation actions that already exist or are under implementation.
