Abstract

The new form of tourism, as opposed to previously developed ones, combined with the emergence of environmental movements, has contributed to a greater questioning of how tourism is currently developed, disconnected from local reality, responsible for environmental degradation, social, economic and cultural areas where changes are made. These practices, clearly detected in a coastal region of great attractiveness on the coast of the State of Alagoas – the
French Beach. This beach is the object of study of this work, as well as the beauty and diversity of its resources which have been the stage of hegemonic actions, including conventional or mass tourism, which, due to its speed, degrade this rich and important ecosystem, turning a place lived and perceived into an ephemeral space. This article is an analysis of the tourism sector in the French Beach. It characterises the current changes that affect the community and ecosystems, questioning their destiny and pointing out the main trends.
