About the Journal
Statement of Purpose
The Journal of Tourism and Development (REVISTA TURISMO & DESENVOLVIMENTO - RT&D) is an editorial project of the Department of Economics, Management, Industrial Engineering and Tourism at the University of Aveiro. Published biannually since 2004, it was the first scientific journal in Portugal with a specific analytical focus on Tourism, with the mission of disseminating original knowledge and research in this field.
RT&D has an international scope and welcomes contributions in Portuguese, English, and Spanish, reflecting diverse perspectives from authors across different countries. The journal is indexed and disseminated in digital formats through various national and international databases, including Scopus.
RT&D adheres to high standards of scientific quality, implementing a double-blind peer review process in two stages, conducted by reviewers from prestigious national and international institutions. To meet these criteria, authors must ensure that all submitted articles clearly and objectively outline their theoretical contributions to the field of tourism research. Additionally, they should highlight the aspects that make the research innovative and provide a detailed explanation of the factors that distinguish their work from other previously published articles in the same field.
Focused, undoubtedly, on being a scientific journal, RT&D does not only transfer scientific and academic knowledge. It enables the opportunity to enlarge latitudes and rehearse an encounter between worlds, sometimes so far apart, namely, the academy and the tourism sector, public and private tourism entities, enriching technical knowledge and those produced outside traditional expert knowledge systems.
Scope
The Journal of Tourism & Development publishes scientific research in the field of Tourism, covering topics such as tourism planning and development, sustainable tourism, public policy, innovation and technology in tourism, cultural tourism, tourism economics, hospitality, among others. The journal values interdisciplinary approaches that connect tourism with geography, sociology, economics, management, environmental studies, and cultural studies. It accepts theoretical, empirical, and applied articles that contribute meaningfully to the advancement of knowledge and practice in the field.
