One of the main imperatives of todays teaching and learning includes the need of adequate planning, guided search, organisation, problem solving, analysis and assessment in Web environments. The problem is the excessive quantity of information and, on the other hand, the lack of confidence that exists on a great part of the information available. So as to transform information into knowledge it is necessary that their users have developed various competences at the level of information literacy, among others. In this article we present the FlexQuest strategy to promote information literacy and cognitive flexibility in advanced levels of knowledge. A summary of some studies on FlexQuest in the Brazilian and Portuguese academic contexts is also put forward.
