Ethics guidelines
Cadernos de PLE. Estudos Variacionistas e Aplicados em Língua Não Materna is a peer-reviewed journal, committed to ensuring high standards of ethics in publication and the quality of published articles. Editors, authors and reviewers have a duty to comply with the standards based on the Code of Conduct and Standards of Good Practice for Journal Editors of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).
Authors
- By submitting an article, authors ensure that the manuscript is their original work, not submitting or having submitted it for publication in other journals.
- Authors must cite publications that were influential in the work presented. Plagiarism in all its forms constitutes an unacceptable and unethical practice.
- The corresponding author must ensure that there is full consensus of all co-authors in submitting the manuscript for publication.
- When an author discovers a significant error or inaccuracy in his or her published work, he or she must promptly notify the journal and collaborate with the editor to correct or retract the publication.
Editors
- Editors should evaluate manuscripts on their merit without considering the authors' racial, gender, sexual orientation, religious belief, ethnic origin, citizenship or political philosophy bias.
- Editors are responsible for the final decision to publish manuscripts submitted to the journal.
- The editor may confer with other editors or academic peers in the decision-making process.
- The editor or other members of the journal may not disclose any information about a manuscript to anyone other than the author, academic peer or editorial members.
- An editor may not use unpublished information in his or her own research without the express consent of the author.
- Editors should take appropriate action when complaints are made regarding a published manuscript or article.
Reviewers
- Peer review helps decisively in the editorial decision and communications with the author during the editorial process to improve the article.
- All manuscripts received are treated confidentially. Privileged information or ideas obtained through peer review should not be used for personal benefit and should be kept confidential.
- Unpublished materials present in a submitted manuscript may not be used by the reviewer without the express consent of the author.
- Personalized criticism of the author is not admissible. Reviews should be conducted objectively and observations presented clearly and with supporting arguments.
- When an academic peer feels unqualified to review the submitted work or knows that they are unable to do so promptly, they should excuse themselves from the editor.
- Academic peers should not evaluate manuscripts in which they have a conflict of interest.
