Call for Papers (2020)
Art(s) and craft(s) of the publishing world today
In an era dominated by social networks, media diversity and the dematerialization of content, the publishing and book industries seek to (re) invent, (re) create, (re) build themselves.
It is, therefore, in an environment of diffusion and noise, in the midst of a 'digital feast', that the book aims at maintaining its role as educator and knowledge builder, a space of culture, a means of preserving memory, as well as an instrument of leisure.
Within such a framework, authors, editors, booksellers, along with informed and keen readers challenge the surrounding turmoil and, aware of all the cross-cutting environment, seek that the publishing world pursues one of its main goals, that of it also being one of the foremost players in such a world art.
We, hence, therefore call for the submission of texts / studies that contribute to the reflection and discussion of some of the most relevant themes in today's 'art of publishing':
- Readers and Reading (s)
- Plurality, changes and the value of publishing
- The dematerialization of the book: the digital reality
- The editorial turbulence: great monopolies vs. independent editors
- The importance of graphic and typographic arts
