Moving Texts: Languages and Mediations.

The 2019 volume of the RUA-L journal on the special thematic issue, Moving Texts: Languages and Mediations, aims at enhancing the dialogue between languages and cultures from a myriad of different viewpoints, ranging from linguistic, to cultural or even literary. As for the study of languages, the purport is to discuss questions connected with language acquisition and/or linguistic variation in multilingual and multicultural contexts, whose theoretical and empirical underpinnings are mobilised by a complex network of linguistic, psycholinguistic, sociolinguistic and sociocultural domains of research/disciplines. By taking these texts and their trajectories into account, we value the text as a social, cultural and historical phenomenon while, in the meantime, underscoring their attempt at inquiring into the recontextualizations and reconstructions of meaning. Such processes of resignification, when seen from the viewpoint of cultural and literary transpositions, arise from complex interactions amongst different languages and cultural settings. Since the middle of the previous century, translation studies, too, has fostered the  interplay between translation and culture as well as the analysis of processes of re-creation, where both converge towards building and/or even strengthening interdisciplinary alliances in combination with linguistics, literary and cultural studies. Furthermore, worth taking into further consideration is the view of translation as being inseparable from interlinguistic and intercultural communication, marked, too, by the application of cultural filters.
