Abstract

From the reflections triggered in the process of construction of the workshop for the International Conference Music for and by Children, we present this essay. The objective is to highlight and dialogue on the importance of traditional childhood music in the teaching of basic school music, as well as the methodological developments that are designed during these processes. We present the traditional music of childhood and its understanding about the child's music, the music of the infantile culture and its characteristics. When we discuss the methodological possibilities of the traditional culture of childhood, we bring musical aspects of repertoires that are perpetuated in the memories of societies, loaded with aesthetic sense and marked by the lived stories. A musical pedagogical practice that values Brazilian cultural diversity and promotes actions of appreciation of popular manifestations, sound experiences and re-readings of these musical matrices. The musical education of children - as a field of sound experiences, space for artistic creation and place of development of the sound collection - must relate to popular music, from communities, from dance halls, from concert halls, and from the streets. Finally, to share the music of the world, the timelessness of musical production and works as a Natural Heritage of Humanity, which must be learned and taught in school.
