Three Films and the Same Narrative: Late Capitalism in Cinema

Parasite (Gisaengchung) 2019, Bacurau 2019 and Joker 2019 made a big splash in the movie industry in their releases, but there are much deeper relationships between the three than their initial repercussions point out. In this work, we seek to relate them to Mandel’s (1998) theory of late capitalism, combined with Bauman’s (1998) postmodernism. The work indicates that the three movies have as their central proposal the same theme and problem, even though they are
separated by distant continents and address different solutions, whether through the union of the family, the people of a nation or the ultra-individualism.
