Abstract

The Círio de Nazaré is an annual religious festival in the city of Belém, in northern Brazil. This documentary research, which took the form of a state-of-the-art study, aimed to systematize the scientific knowledge about this festival, in order to analyze its interfaces with Hospitality. A total of 36 researches were identified, of which 28 were masters and 8 were PhDs, within the period from 1998 to 2015, especially from the Federal University of Pará. Subjects and topics were analyzed in three subperiods in their relations with Hospitality approaches from the selected keywords and snippets. The components Ritual and Social Relations, besides the Commensality associated to the paradigm of the gift, were evidenced. Such elements are indicative, yet other aspects must be investigated so as to identify the categories of hospitality analysis in religious festivals within the context of cultural tourism.
