Abstract

This article suggests a tour through Lisbon’s historic centre in four novels by José Saramago: Levantado do Chão, Memorial do Convento, O Ano da Morte de Ricardo Reis and História do Cerco de Lisboa. It is a walk through Alfama, Castelo, Baixa, Bairro Alto and Chiado following the characters of these fictional works and thus exploring the streets and the people.
