Abstract

Oporto is becoming one of the most attractive cities in the Portuguese tourism scenario. Its international growing prestige has been proven by the increasing number of tourists and by the travel and tourism prizes recently granted in important international industry contests such as “European Best Destination” 2014 and 2016. The available data demonstrates that 2016 has been another excellent year for the sector. In this scenario it is relevant to study the relationship between Port Wine – the region’s ex libris - the new city dynamics and the growing touristic demand in order to understand its contribution for the growth of exports and spending. Furthermore, it is important to try to understand the tools that can be combined in order to increase the symbiosis between the region and the worldwide famous “brand” that is Port Wine in terms of touristic promotion to create additional value to the local economy, culture, society and the country.
