Abstract

LGBT tourism has stimulated growing interest from companies and touristic destinations.Destinations wishing to attract the LGBT market must be aware that modern legislation on equal rights, acceptance, respect, non-discrimination and acceptance by the local community are vital factors for success (WTO, 2017).In this context, the present study focuses on the analysis of attitudes and perceptions of the local community of Northern Portugal towards tourism / LGBT market. In general, the local community is perceived as quite hospitable people. However, there is still some reluctance and discrimination regarding sexual orientation and gender identity.
