Abstract

Geotourism implies a relationship between tourism and science, about which it is relevant to understand the findings of the scientific literature. The general objective of this study is to analyze geotourism and its relationship with scientific tourism based on the Ibero-American scientific production. The specific aims are: (a) to identify the areas of geographic interest; (b) to verify the scientific disclosure in the periodicals that have published the most works on the theme; and (c) to identify the frequency of the publications. The study is exploratory and descriptive in nature, based on bibliographic research using keywords in the database of Publicações de Turismo, which covers 37 indexed Ibero-American scientific periodicals. The search identified 26 results, one of which was excluded from the tabulation for being a review itself (n=25). The data were compiled in spreadsheets and analyzed regarding mapped aspects with the QGis 3.8 Zanzibar software. The results contribute to advance knowledge about geotourism.
