Abstract

Tourist enterprises, especially resorts, are commonly related to the appearance of environmental conflicts with traditional communities. The article intends to discuss the environmental impacts and conflicts of tourist enterprises in the State of Rio de Janeiro. It specifically aims to analyze failures and inconsistencies of environmental licensing of tourist enterprises and call the attention to the importance of the tourism professional on the environmental impact assessment (EIA). Therefore, an exploratory research was adopted by means of bibliographical and documental survey. It was concluded that there is a need of better understanding of the tourist phenomenon in the environmental licensing as a way to contribute to the strengthening of this instrument of the Brazilian policy in the natural heritage protection.
