Abstract

The present study aims to present the technique Photovoice, technique of participatory photography with origin in anthropology, as a stimulus to social participation in the development of tourism. For that, a bibliographic survey was carried out on the subject and the elaboration of a proposal of application in the municipality of Maragogi, Alagoas, Brazil. This study begins by detailing the importance of social participation for the achievement of development. Then there is the presentation of the Photovoice technique as well as applications in tourism. Following this, the presentation of the municipality of Maragogi / AL, as well as the proposed action to be implemented in place. It is concluded that Photovoice shows itself as a creative and engaging form of research, with qualitative results that, together with the explanation promoted in a meeting to debate the material produced, can provide valuable information to interpret the resident’s world view, valuing Habits, preferences, needs and environment. With this, it can be said that Photovoice can be of great value to small localities that want to implement a community-based tourism, with the decision making in the hands of the residents and benefits oriented to the place.
