The aim of this study is to discuss the possible contributions of tourism and leisure activities in relation to changes in rural areas. It seeks to understand the relationship of tourism and the expansion of the second home, linked to the processes of gentrification in the rural area of Gravatá-PE. For this study, we used data and document analysis, bibliographic survey and content analysis. We interviewed 28 second-time residents and 47 dwellers in order to understand the elements that constitute the elitism and ennoblement caused by leisure activities. It can be seen the remoteness of the residents and the deliberate isolation of the users / visitors due to the condominiums of second home. Therefore, with new uses in rural areas, there is the supply and consumption of new products and services, especially activities related to residential and leisure functions. However, it is identified that tourism is now legitimizing and justifying the ennoblement actions of urban and rural areas, promoting real estate valuation.
