Abstract

Hospitality has a polysemic character, aiming to understand it, an exploratory research on the search website “Portal de Periódicos CAPES” was carried out in order to identify articles, dissertations and theses on hospitality that inscribe Derrida in its theoretical framework. In this sense, hospitality was considered as an index of the research, whereas reception, gift and sociability were used as categories of the analysis. The purposes of this article were to understand how Jacques Derrida’s thinking has been appropriated by the scholars of hospitality, to identify the dimensions of hospitality brought from the philosopher’s studies and to draw up the author’s references that treat of hospitality. From the investigation of six papers and a thesis, selected as the corpus of the research, the concepts were identified in order to (re) construct the author’s thinking. As main results, the categories were expanded through the identification of other dimensions, such as tolerance and sovereignty; and Derrida’s texts that can be inserted in the studies of hospitality and that go beyond those commonly used have been identified.
