Abstract

Despite the importance of evaluating public tourism policies as a tool for the relationship between the State and society in order to improve public actions and improve well-being in communities where this activity takes place, studies with practical results that can serve as models for other regions, while respecting territorial idiosyncrasies, are still limited. This article aims to map the contributions of international literature on the concepts and implementation of evaluation of public tourism policies in the last 20 years, with an emphasis on the most recent contributions. The investigation is based on a bibliometric review using the bibliometrix software with data collected from the Web of Science and Scopus databases. The utilization of this methodology allowed the highlighting of the main studies and conceptual frameworks, as well as understanding how the theme has developed from 2003 to 2023. Based on the presented results, it can be seen that studies related to the topic suggest a future trend of addressing sustainability, social participation, and governance as pillars for tourism development in an intrinsic and integrated manner.
