El turismo como vía para el desarrollo sostenible en Uruguay: un sector productivo estratégico hacia el horizonte 2030

Abstract

This article researches the potential of tourism as a way for development in Uruguay, within the framework of national strategies and global guidelines. To this end, government documents prepared in recent years are analyzed, revealing development guidelines and models that promote the planning of the tourism sector in Uruguay. A historical tour of the theorization of development will be the support of the above. As a conclusion, it is proposed that the tourism sector acquires an increasing economic centrality in the country, emphasizing a horizon of sustainability thought based on a territorial diversification of the activity and its decentralization.
