Abstract

Tourism is growing in low-density territories, which have unique vernacular heritage and architecture. In many cases, the tourism activity ensures the preservation of villages, traditions and the regional identity of the populations. This study focuses on the reality of the Gândara region and aims to show that tourism in rural communities can be a heritage preservation factor. To answer this objective, three hypotheses were tested. A focus group was made to stakeholders, using a qualitative methodology, and the data were treated using the Nvivo software. From the analysis of the focus group, 5 fundamental categories were identified that mirror the reality of the proposed objective, and respective hypotheses that were tested, in qualitative scope.
