Abstract

The objective of this work is to understand the interpretation of local stakeholders, who work within the tourism sector, about the tourism development in inductor destinations in the state of Minas Gerais, Brazil. In methodological terms, it is a qualitative study and the method of content analysis was used. The data were collected through interviews and documents. The results involve the characterization of the destinations considering indicators related to economic, cultural and organizational dimensions for tourism development. It was observed that the Designated Denomination granted by the government of Minas Gerais to qualify some cities as tourist destinations did not appear to be adequate, allowing creating Groups of Tourist Characterization. Finally, it was found that, in almost all the studied destinations, the
community remains oblivious to the development of the tourist activity, indicating that tourism in these places is still an activity understood and desired by only a few people.
