Abstract

The study assesses the current situation in tourism studies in higher education in Portugal, interpreting the changes that are occurring in the educational processes after full implementation of the Bologna Process. Thus, the main objective is to meet these changes as well as those arising from the more recent use of evaluation and accreditation systems in the courses of the 1st cycle of scientific knowledge in this area. The analysis of the contribution from the evaluation and accreditation systems of the training offer in tourism can allow perspective future progress in this scientific area, also in other levels of education in order to understand its vertical articulation, especially with courses in 2nd and 3rd cycles. The research methodology is based mainly on the analysis of secondary data collected for this purpose from the A3ES site,
due to the need to examine across some scientific curriculum and courses of selected variables in order to understand the scientific nature of tourism, especially creating a holistic perspective of reflection on the results of the assessment and accreditation processes developed by A3ES. Curriculum development and quality of training, in this scientific field, also depend on the weighting of the various scientific areas that contribute to the structuring of curricula of a degree, so it is possible to equate the relative importance of each and the model used by an institution.
