Master’s degree dissertations of postgraduate programs in Tourism in Brazil: analysis of citations

Abstract

This article it is a bibliometric descriptive study, which was based on the master’s degree produced in the Postgraduate Programs in Tourismin Brazil. We analyzed 206 Master’s Degree Dissertations, defended in four Programs selected (UAM, UNIVALI, UCS and UFRN), with the time delimiting the period 2008-2012, the total number of references that universe was 17,701 citations, 1,638 being sampled. The results obtained by the sample showed that the books and contributed chapters with the highest number of citations in these works (58%), and the articles contributed only 15% of this total. The highest concentration of the cited documents have publication, dates up to 15 years, before the date of the dissertation; the Portuguese language predominated in quotes (85%), followed by English (11%).
