Starting from the assumption that the concepts of production management, developed and applied in the context of industrial production, is constrained when they are employed in activities, such as the provision of services, particularlly the tourism, in which they are limited to conceptual transpositions and their own theoretical elaborations. This theoretical essay is dedicated to mapping, systematizing and conceptually ordering the key ideas of the área of production management in the context of tourism, and its ordinary activity of providing tourism services. The theoretical review encompasses concepts of intraorganizational environment, such as planning and control of production, and interorganizacional environment, as networks, supply chain and logistics. As a result, a theoretical model, yet a propaedeutic one, is presented, wich is subject to review and empirical applications, with the specificity of being focused on the tourism sector, in particular, and services in general. It is concluded that the proposition theoretically contributes to specifying concepts and treats them appropriately for tourism; and, pragmatically, providing means for objective and accurate application in this sector. However, circumscriptions inherent to this propaedeutic phase, as the need for validation and adjustments, are recognized.
