Literature for the youngest as windows to intercultural relations: the case of Chinese characters

The place of literature for children and young people in the educational field has been widely discussed and explored. In particular, and considering its role in socialization processes, especially during childhood, literature can contribute to the development of attitudes of understanding and respect for different cultures, enhancing a better understanding of the world around us. These dimensions are analyzed from a set of books for children and young people, by Portuguese authors, and with Chinese characters in different contexts. It can be seen that through the eyes of these figures it is possible to glimpse shared desires and expectations, while processes of self-knowledge are constructed by means of the characters of Portuguese origin who interact with them.
