Applying finite state machine theory and object-oriented programming to the logical synthesis of control devices

Abstract

This paper discusses some approaches to the design of control units based on programmable logic devices (PLD). They combine finite state machine theory with object oriented programming to allow control units to be designed with new facilities, such as: extensibility, flexibility and reuse. The techniques use predefined frames and basic schemes (templates) as far as possible.
