Abstract

With the increasing traffic and consequent demand for higher bitrates, optical telecommunications networks include new systems operating exclusively in the optical domain, thus avoiding the optical to electrical conversion. Modules implementing the procedure of alloptical clock recovery are of extreme importance because the produced signal has all the synchronisation information needed for the correct operation of fundamental procedures like demultiplexing and 3R regeneration. In this paper several techniques that implement the all-optical clock recovery procedure are identified. Main attention is given to those that use self-pulsation lasers. Most recent results concerning to transmission in OTDM networks are also reported.
