Abstract

This article presents a study about systems that use multiple antennas to transmit and receive information (MIMO systems). This type of system allows in the transmitter and in the receiver, spatial diversity or beamforming, and in environments with large number of independent multipath components, achieves a transmission capacity higher than any other system based on arrays of conventional antennas. The performance of MIMO systems depends on the propagation channel. A full characterization of thepropagation channel is an important issue to evaluate thetransmission capacity. Here we present some models forMIMO propagation. Two propagation models for the MIMO channel areimplemented: the analytical Kronecker model and thephysical GSCM model and the results are compared.
