Abstract

This paper provides an overview of the main strengths of the ATM technology to establish virtual private networks (VPN) over ATM public networks. Three basic models are analysed: VPN based on permanent end-to-end VPCs, VPN based on permanent VCCs and VPN based on switched VCCs.
