This paper is about the everyday life of musicians from the Seychelles islands, an archipelago situated in the Indian Ocean, and the strategies they have used to develop their professional and artistic career, from the 1980s onwards. The strategies employed by these musicians are used to reduce the limitations caused by insularity, the problems of internal management and the lack of infrastructures, and depend on their musical experience, their management abilities and their positioning in the country’s political and social sphere. A change in the musicians’ expression of their identity was also observed, displayed, through their musical choices and intentions. The use of internet and the actions of the diaspora, which lead to globalization, have also had a considerable impact on the musical behaviour and experiences in the Seychelles islands.
