Abstract

The aim of this paper is to introduce a complementary approach to teaching music performance in higher education. Such approach aims to bridge the student’s artistic desired outcome with music performance professional achievements (artistic self-realization). Triangulation of results obtained from (i) an extensive literature review; (ii) master-classes in situ observations with elite performers; and (iii) focus group interviews with higher education students which were carried out. Based on the outcomes a proposal to introduce that approach in higher education was developed (i.e. Artistic Music Performance Mentoring Program), whose assumptions are hereby discussed.
