Population dynamics in Viseu Dão Lafões with mobile positioning data

This study investigates population dynamics and tourist mobility patterns in the Viseu Dão Lafões region using mobile positioning data (MPD). The data were analyzed in conjunction with official statistics and tourism-related variables, aiming to provide a more detailed and up-to-date view of the region. The methodology involved a hybrid approach to data collection, including extraction and transformation of information from multiple sources, followed by Knowledge Discovery in Databases (KDD) application. The results revealed a positive correlation between population density estimates derived from mobile positioning data and Census data, validating the utility of this data as a complementary tool for demographic and tourism analyses. Additionally, patterns of movement among foreign tourists in the region were identified, offering relevant insights for event planning and local tourism promotion. However, limitations related to data availability and complexity are acknowledged, highlighting the importance of careful interpretation of results. In conclusion, this study contributes to a deeper understanding of population dynamics and tourism in Viseu Dão Lafões, emphasizing the need for ongoing analysis and methodological.
