Abstract

Creative tourism (CT), an extension of cultural tourism, facilitates active engagement in cultural and creative activities at the destination, distinguishing it from mass cultural tourism. This study examines the impact of CT on the quality of life (QoL) of older artisans, a demographic often overlooked. It focuses on Loulé Criativo, an initiative promoting local culture and identity through CT workshops. The research employs a qualitative exploratory case study approach. Findings reveal significantly positive effects of CT on older artisans' QoL, with improvements in dimensions like health perception, role and activity, relationships, attitude and adaptation, and financial security. Mechanisms such as active involvement, creative self-expression, cultural heritage connection, and community engagement within CT experiences are key drivers of these positive outcomes. This study contributes empirical evidence on CT's impact on QoL and underscores the importance of inclusive CT initiatives for enhancing the well-being of older artisans, providing valuable insights for future developments in cultural tourism and community engagement.
