This study sought to describe the importance attributed to environmental education issues in initial teacher training by analysing the syllabuses of teacher training courses at three universities in Angola, Brazil and Portugal. To this end, the aim was to demonstrate how the issue of environmental education is dealt with in initial teacher training courses, based on the legislative normative acts on education and training that guide the syllabuses of universities located in these three countries. The results highlight the fact that educational policy and education plans orientate education towards sustainability and environmental education. In addition, one of the priority actions can be highlighted, that of training students as well as professionals and educators with the knowledge, skills, values and attitudes necessary for the transition towards sustainability. At this point, education has the role of awakening these individual and collective consciences, training and guiding individuals to change their attitudes and behaviours in favour of the environment and sustainability.
