Review studies are relevant to the knowledge of a particular theme in the literature. Understanding the state of the art in the use of results in evaluation in Brazilian Basic Education allows for reflecting on the applicability of the results obtained in external evaluations. Analyzing these results can help in the planning and reorientation of policies and effective pedagogical actions. Therefore, it is questioned: “What does the national scientific literature present about the use of external evaluations in Basic Education?”. The objective is to identify in the national scientific literature studies the use of the results of external evaluations. The survey took place in the databases Capes, SciELO, and Google Scholar in the years 2020, 2021, and 2022 in Brazil. Of the 89 articles identified, 13 were classified for full reading and analysis. The results indicate that the data are being used for various purposes, such as the critical analysis of public policies, the remodeling of goals, the promotion of continuing education and/or workshops to teachers, holding assemblies to discuss the results, the identification of learning problems, the development of intervention plans, the development of actions for students, the change of pedagogical practices, and school reinforcement. We suggest new review studies with a broader time frame. It is necessary to continue critically and purposefully questioning the effectiveness of policies and practices committed to ensuring the right to learning for all students.
