Abstract

This article focused on the results published by the General Inspection of Education and Science (IGEC), in the context of the external evaluation of schools in the central region of Portugal, with special focus on the third evaluation cycle and, specifically, regarding the domain of Leadership and Management. An analysis of the overall reports of the external evaluation activity, made available on the IGEC website, made it possible to assess information on thirteen school clusters from a given region, assessed in the school year 2019/2020, having been established, in this study, four categories of analysis: i. Grades obtained; ii. Strengths, iii. Areas for improvement, and iv. Evaluation of leadership by teaching and non-teaching staff. This was a qualitative study with an interpretive paradigm. We used the content analysis technique to process the data. The results showed that there is a recognition of the work consigned to the leadership and management, and that the strengths outweigh the areas for improvement. Special attention was paid in this study to the vision that the teaching and non-teaching staff has of the leadership of school organizations.
