Abstract

This article proposes a discussion on the foundations of Didactics as a pedagogical field and its epistemological and historical aspects. The objective that guides the construction of this reflection lies, mainly, in the contemporary trends of didactic foundations, especially  in the question of the latent epistemology in its exercise as an important aspect for an adequate understanding of the teaching actions. After a brief exposition on epistemology and didactics, a succinct rescue of its foundations is advanced from a historical approach to the present. The consequent conclusions of the considerations made on the contemporary question of the trends and foundations of didactics, diligently investigated reveal that since its creation by Comenius, it has crossed and crosses history and time marked by advances and setbacks, but determined in a process of non-accommodation in the investigation of installed problems, where teaching performance is often found, and in this way, advancing knowledge to overcome problems located in the historical context.
