Abstract

This article presents brief history of Distance Learning (DL) in Brazil and the current scenario of this learning model in education and teaching undergraduate courses. The objectives of this research were: To identify the perceptions about the teaching profession of future students of Pedagogia course and other teaching courses; analyze the students’ self- declared familiar, social and educational scenario; and find and analyze statements of students who have been through teaching courses in DL mode, highlighting their experiences and perceptions of quality of both courses and mode. The data collection mode happened first through analysis of the demographic and socioemotional profile, regarding teachers’ induction training who opted for distance learning, through bibliographical research of articles that also point out studies about the quality of this input and the professionalization of the teaching profession. Such bibliographic search acts as foundation to stablish the means of data collection, comments of YouTube videos and the classification fields of this data. Though WebQDA software, the comments were codified and, then, through discourse analysis of both the comments and the speech of the influencers in the videos, plus the association with the selected bibliography, the results show that: The choice for the Pedagogia course and other courses is majorly female and there’s still insecurity of the masculine public towards this factor; the choice for distance learning in Brazil depends, not only on price and commuting, but also the student’s profile, who has usually built a family or started their professional life and sees in this development opportunity an income complement, social ascension or a dream come true; and the construction of virtual communities, being through YouTube video comments or interactions with influencers is a decision-making influence factor for the future university entrants in the beginning of the second decade of the 21st century.
