Abstract

This research aimed to verify whether teachers recognize the importance of using Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) as a subsidy to educational practice. For that, we used data from a forum, part of a course, offered by the São Paulo State Department of Education, for education professionals, available on the internet, on the educator portal of the Ministry of Education and Culture (MEC). The forum started with the following question: Why do we need to use technology at school? In response to the questioning, the participants expressed their opinions, totaling 295 comments, and these were subsequently raised and analyzed by the researchers. The result revealed that education professionals are unanimous in recognizing the importance of using ICT as a subsidy to teachers' educational practice, however, it was found that there are still challenges to be overcome to guarantee the use in an autonomous and meaningful way.
