Abstract

Important information can be extracted from students’ questions for the adoption of a more effective teaching, focusing on experiential and motivational characteristics of students. In this article 102 Physics questions of the science learning site: “Seara da Ciência” were analyzed. The questions were analyzed with reference to tree coding schemes associated with i) the interest in learning physics: the content or field of physics, ii) the context or usefulness of the question (personal, professional and scholar) and iii) the connection to everyday life or prior knowledge. Quantitative analysis, performed using SPSS, revealed relations between these schemes. A significant relation between content and context (context character of content questions) was verified with classical mechanical primarily in scholar context, interactions and fields in professional context and the areas of wave phenomena and modern physics at personal context. Links to the daily observed or prior knowledge were observed for the four areas of physics considered, independently of the area. Connective characteristics of the context questions were obtained, with a lesser degree of significance, with the authors of the personal questions trying to establish connections to every day life (connective questions) and the professionals and scholar questions non-connective in nature.
