The article is an extension of Wichnoski’s master’s research (2016), built under the phenomenologicalhermeneutic stance. At that time three categories it were scrutinized and one of them says about the ways of understanding Mathematical Research in Mathematical Education. It is about this category that the present article throws light with the aim of explaining hermeneutically, the aspects that may have outlined the understanding exposed in the aforementioned research. In a hermeneutical exercise, we conclude that historical, pedagogical and structural aspects (with regard to the training program), the professional constitution of the teacher trainer, gaps in the theory of Mathematical Research itself and the absence of a consolidated community dealing with this theme may have Influenced the way in which understanding has been revealed.
