Abstract

This study presents a picture of a research developed during the Master of the Graduate Program in Education of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte. This is a preliminary study, descriptive-exploratory and Qualitative view, which is based on the analysis of the contents of the questionnaire. The social and problematizing theme: “Trash of my neighborhood” was the starting point for the promotion of sustainability education for students of basic education, especially students of the 9th grade of elementary school II, of a public school in the city of Natal - Rio Grande do Norte. In this article, we will analyze the questionnaire that was used as a data collection instrument, whose objective was: To know the students’ perceptions about the subject “garbage and environment”, then to elaborate and apply the sequence of activities. During the analysis of the questionnaires, we observed the lack of interest of the students in relation to the subjects related to the Environment. In general, we have concluded the need to implement ecological practices and raise awareness since the beginning of the school period. The school has the responsibility to support the practice of quality sustainable education.
