Understanding formative research as a fundamental element in the formation of the scientific spirit, raises the need to analyze the role of teachers’ mental models in the teaching research within middle-level educational institutions and university institutions, taking into account as a basis the qualitative approach that in a second phase serves as a guide for the quantitative analysis of information. The present study includes the analysis of 18 semi-structured interviews to teachers of secondary education institutions and 14 teachers of University institutions, finding a new approach in the traditional analysis of perceptions and pedagogies in the teaching research, based on mental models and their social influence.
