With the increased investment in research and innovation, the assessment of research quality is
being more and more regulated by standards that seek excellence. However, the dimensions
considered for this evaluation have progressively been based on the quantification of its products,
the measurement of bibliometric and in the use of citation as a way of measuring the impact
regardless of the objects, aims and research fields.
This emphasis on quantification has provoked discussion within the scientific community especially
in the fields of social sciences and humanities where these concepts and measures should be read
in context, respecting their specific culture and dissemination of research.
Under this assumption, this paper presents the main trends in the evaluation of the quality of research
with particular attention to their impact in the context of educational research based on a study
conducted within the research center ‘Didactics and Technology in Education of Trainers’ (CIDTFF).
In this context, we aimed to identify the dimensions (sub dimensions and indicators) considered to
be the most relevant by its researchers to develop research.
The results highlight the role of fundraising, coordination and participation in international projects
and the relevance of the research environment as a factor favoring the creation of a quality culture.
